History

history

As we reflect on the journey of the United Way of Lowndes and Noxubee, we are filled with pride and gratitude for the incredible support from our community over the years. Our story began in 1954 under the name Columbus Lowndes Community Chest, with a vision to create positive change and support those in need.

In the 1970s, recognizing the growing scope of our impact, we transitioned into the United Way Lowndes County. This change reflected our commitment to fostering collaboration and unity within our community.

In 2019, we extended our services to Noxubee County, becoming the United Way of Lowndes and Noxubee. This expansion allowed us to broaden our reach, providing vital support to even more individuals and families in need.

A significant milestone occurred in 2021 when we expanded our services to include four additional counties: Choctaw, Oktibbeha, Webster, and Winston. This growth represents a testament to the unwavering dedication of our community and the increasing impact of the United Way.

In December of 2024, the board unanimously voted to add a seventh county under the United Way umbrella, Clay County. This addition is particularly significant as it allows us to complete the Triangle, reinforcing our commitment to serving the interconnected communities within this region and enhancing our ability to create lasting change.

Our commitment to improving lives, strengthening communities, and creating lasting change remains at the heart of everything we do. As we continue to grow, we are enthusiastic about the opportunities to collaborate with diverse communities and make a positive impact across a wider geographic area.

Thank you for being an integral part of our history and journey. Together, we look forward to shaping a brighter future for all.
